TALK of a supposed motorbike trip around Ireland first surfaced last year and now it seems A-list actor George Clooney is finally ready for his longawaited visit to these shores. The Hollywood star is currently on a European promotional tour of his new film, Tomorrowland: A World Beyond.

Speaking at the London premiere to Xposé's Peter O'Riordan, Clooney, 54, said he's hoping to holiday here to see his friend Bono this summer.

'I would like to go [to Ireland]. They started it [media coverage] because I said to someone, you know a reporter, that I'd love to come to Ireland, and next thing I know I'm going to be there in a week or something,' he said.

'We're going to try and get there this summer sometime.' And he joked that he and the U2 frontman will steer clear of bicycles, following Bono's recent cycling accident in Central Park.

'We've exchanged some emails and I think we're going to stay off of the bicycle with Bono, apparently he's very dangerous,' Clooney said.

The actor, who plays inventor Frank Walker in his latest film, also avoided being questioned by O'Riordan about starting a family with his wife Amal Alamuddin. 'My favourite thing was I didn't know how you were going to get it in [the baby question] but I saw you weaving it,' he said.

Clooney and human rights lawyer Amal married in Venice last year.

They said 'I do' in September 2014 after a year of dating and their lavish wedding was attended by a string of famous faces, including Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, Emily Blunt and Cindy Crawford.

Clooney has Irish roots on both sides of the family. His father's great-greatgrandfather Nicholas Clooney came from Co. Kilkenny. His paternal grandmother's maiden name was Guilfoyle. The name Clooney is an anglicised form of the Irish ó Cluanaigh, which translates as a descendant of Clugnach, meaning a rogue or a flatterer. Eight months after tying the knot, Clooney revealed that he and wife Amal have never had so much as one disagreement. In an interview with the Daily Mirror, the 54-year-old said the pair have made a promise to one another to ensure they always put one another first. He said: 'Our deal is that neither of us can be more than a week away and so far in general that has worked out really well.' The Hollywood actor married Amal, pictured with Clooney above, less than a year after they were first thought to be dating, which surprised most as he always said he would never marry again. The heart-throb's first nuptials to actress Talia Balsam, 56, ended in 1993 after four years of marriage. In later years, he was linked to a string of beautiful stars including Lisa Snowdon and Renée Zellweger.
